We like to keep users updated on service experiences with various secure surfing vendors when they present themselves, particularly those recommended by the Secure Surfing Organization.
We have used the Total Netshield Service of Anonymizer for years and have been very pleased with its identity and privacy protection power.
We were using the 2-year term as it provided longer “forget about it” ease and offered a small discount. We also set our
account to auto-renew.
Apparently Anonymizer ended the two-year option and we received a renewal notice. We logged into our account and confirmed the address and the Auto-Renew On status. Logged off and forgot about it.
Some days later we received notice that our account had not been renewed and were directed to a third-party payment gateway, Plimus. Concerned that were were working without a net (i.e. surfing the internet completely exposed) we immediately went to the Plimus site and processed a credit card payment for a new one year subscription.
We continued to experience problems with our existing account.
Why was this happening with a company that had supplied flawless service for a decade?
So we called the voice line support and spoke with the Billing department.
A remarkably friendly young woman handled our situation in under five minutes.
The fault was entirely our own – though she was kind enough never to actually point out that fact.
We had not updated our credit card information and over the years it had both expired and been replaced with an entirely new credit card.
What occurred then was that the account we wanted to renew was never renewed and the account we signed up with through Plimus, was a completely new account and hence not accessible through our existing one.
The support person helping us did not make us listen to that explanation; we figured it out after the call. All she did was to say Anonymizer had the wrong credit card number on account (instead “You, customer, left a bogus credit card on your account”) established our identity, applied the payment we made to Plimus to our existing account, got us activated and thank us very much for using Anonymizer’s service.
We feel absolutely confident in continuing to recommend Anonymizer as your primary tool for protecting your privacy on the internet.
